JASON KOUMAS

Posted by liam on July 10, 2007 4:36 PM |

SO Jason Koumas is worth £5.3m in the warped hyper-reality which is this summer’s transfer market.
Let’s re-cap. This is a player who failed to shine consistently for West Brom in the Premiership and only really turned it on last season back in club football’s second tier.

Most blues would have welcomed the 27-year-old to Bellefield as competition in the squad and provider of an option on the left of midfield.
But few would argue with Everton’s failure to match Wigan to the hilt. David Moyes clearly did not rate him enough.
When it came to Jagielka Moysey ensured we matched Sheffield United’s (equally inflated) asking price and the utility man picked us ahead of Wigan and Bolton.
Given a choice I’m sure Koumas would have done the same...
Nevertheless, the ‘availables’ seem to be drying up for Everton, and you’ve got to hope our Euro scouts have been doing their homework (as in Agger = good, Kroldrup = bad, v bad).
It’s no secret that Everton need another couple of players at least this summer. I thought we needed to add half a dozen to kick-on from last term, but given our financial constraints that was never going to happen.
It would be nice to see at least one of our arrivals being a pulse-quickener though. Ok we’re not in the market for your £16m Darren Bents or £8m Reo-Cokers. But it would be nice to recruit someone with something approaching the wow factor.
Maybe we were ‘spoiled’ last summer with the sharp business of Howard, Lescott and Johnson all wrapped up before August.
Finally, you can tell Jamie Carragher once shared blue blood. He did a good job putting Adrian “I’ve never played amateur football” Durham in his place on Monday.
I’m sceptical about Lescott’s chances of a fair crack ahead of Terry, Ledley King and Rio “He’s just like Bobby Moore” Ferdinand.

Koumas would have been a good addition to our small squad but definitely not for that price.
How can Wigan justify paying £5.3 million for him? That is desperation buying on Wigans part.

With David Nugents move to Portsmouth likely to go through any time now, the three players who I thought a couple of weeks ago would become Everton Players have slipped through the net, the third being Joey Barton.

With currently only 20 recognised players in our squad, I do not see how we will be able to cope with the extra demands of the UEFA cup.

We still need at least half a dozen new players, just to ensure that we do not struggle in the league.

Maybe and hopefully David Moyes knows what he is doing, and has deals in hand, for this we must wait and see.....

Yeah, the transfer world has gone crazy. £3m tops for Koumas. £11m for Lucho who nobody's heard before. £11m that Liverpool have paid for a promising but largely raw and untried Babel, Darren Bent fetching over £15m....the list is endless. Football is eating itself far too much money, footballers with inflated egos, businessmen with no interest in the game buying up clubs left, right and centre.....fans being forced to travel hundreds of mils for a 12pm kick off, with tickets a mere £38.

It's just soft. Seriously, vote with your feet, stay away until the idiots in charge realise they are killing the game....let's all go and watch cricket, at least its got a bit of integerity...that's when they keep the boiled sweets in the dressing rooms anyway....
