SUPER, SUPER LEE....

Posted by Greg O'Keeffe on August 15, 2007 10:18 AM |

LOUD and positive noises were quite rightly made this summer when the best little Spaniard we know and Tim Cahill signed hefty contract extensions.

But there was another familiar name put to paper which heralded less fanfare but deserved far, far more.
Lee Carlsley’s decision to snub a move to Wigan and stay in Royal Blue for another year was a major boost for our season’s hopes.

I’ll try and skip the ‘unsung hero’ cliches but Super Lee was at it again last night during our magnificent victory at Spurs.
His last-ditch break-ups, accurate passing and unflinching work-rate made the softly spoken Brummie my man (amongst men) of the match.
Somehow he is always there ruining the opposition’s momentum, getting in the way and doing it ugly.
Carsley does what Makele and Mascherano do for others but with less bling and less noughts on his weekly pay-check.
I wouldn’t swap him for many.

(And he once had the grace to listen patiently when me and one of my mate’s bored the arse off him in Revolution for 20 minutes.)
