LESCOTT FOR ENGLAND.....? NO THANKS

Posted by Greg O'Keeffe on August 7, 2007 10:32 AM |

TABLOID chatter tells us Steve McLaren is going to hold talks with Jamie Carragher (i.e. the only RS player it’s OK not to hate) about coming back to the England fold.

All well and predictable.
After all, McLaren is incapable of standing by his misguided decisions, see his panicked recall of Beckham when he finally found form again at the Bernabau.
But the word around here suggests McLaren has got about as much chance of persuading the Bootle stopper of doing a U-Turn as we have of signing Riquelme.
The truly frustrating thing about all this is why Joleon Lescott hasn’t had the hallowed call.

Without a doubt he was the defensive newcomer of the year last season. You only have to see how many non-blues are picking him in their fantasy footy squads.
I say really frustrating but that reaction is tempered by the notion that on some level I don’t care if any of our squad get international call-ups.
That way lies injuries, tap-ups and absences.
I needn’t worry though. Lescott won’t get the call-up any time soon (unless it’s England B, or for a pointless friendly) because he doesn’t play in London or for Manchester United.
Which leaves him free to play more football for us, at the immaculate standard he did last season.
Will be nice to see him play centre-half with Yobo too.

We'll be eternally grateful Katie! Knowing Everton, Wolves are probably due a trickle of cash over the next five years too...
