CLATTENBURG is struck off the Premier League fixture list for this weekend and David Moyes won’t be punished for his justified criticism.
Forgive me for not getting a warm glow.
Now can we have a point back and Dirk Kuyt banned retrospectively like Gerrard was after his assault on Gary Naysmith?
Not going to happen is it?
As my red mates have been proclaiming sagely, and they are right, these things happen in football and the decision even themselves out. Chelsea, they were robbed, Rob Styles, blah blah blah.
What many of them don’t understand is that these things happen to Everton in Merseyside derbies, and generally when it matters (Collina’s retirement cameo anyone?) more than most.
The Reds can bang on all they like about “bitters” and such (they should know about whingeing having to listen to Rafa Benitez these days) but it’s true.
From Garry McAllister rolling the ball forward 10 yards before firing in the free kick which beat us in 2001 to the two penalties turned down on Saturday.
There is little point griping about history but when these things seem to happen again and again they leave a sour taste.
Now it’s worth drawling a line under the derby controversey. It’s over and we have to look to Larissa and then Derby.
Maybe we do need to reflect on the team Moyes put out on Saturday though, which looked in control at times but still failed to press the advantage.
And why he persists in playing two full-backs in midfield.
Hopefully having Gravesen and Cahill back will mean Jagielka and Neville can go back to contesting the full-back spots where they should be playing.
