PROBLEMS

Posted by Greg O'Keeffe on November 2, 2007 7:00 PM |

AS IF the article below wasn't bad enough there are now some very worrying rumours rattling around the internet forums that Nuremberg are going to cancel all tickets for their home end bought from UK addresses and credit cards.
That could mean up to 8,000 blues being left in the lurch after paying for flights and hotels.
Coupled with the fiasco detailed in the Echo on Friday, this could turn into another Everton Euro ticket nightmare.
Why can't it ever be simple?
It happened with Villareal, Bucharest and both legs against Metalist were hit with ticket problems.
It's unacceptable really.
While it's still early days (apparently Nuremberg are going to make a final decision on Monday about whether to cancel the tickets) questions have got to be asked.
Who is to blame? Fans who didn't anticipate problems buying tickets en masse for the home end?
Nuremberg for taking thousands of UK bookings?
I hope this smoothes itself out and no inquest is necessary. Everyone is excited about the game and looking forward to a cracking tie in a great city.
Fingers crossed. I don't want negative publicity to detract from our Uefa campaign.

Everton FC fans told ‘tickets all gone’ for Nuremberg clash
Nov 2 2007 by Ben Turner, Liverpool Echo

FURIOUS Everton fans hit out today after being told they would not be going to the club’s UEFA match next week despite believing they had paid for tickets.

They were expecting to travel on the Blues’ official package trip to Nuremberg. But yesterday they received phone calls from the travel company to inform them that there were no tickets for them.

Everton FC said today the fans had actually only had their details taken to go on a waiting list.

But the fans are adamant they paid for a guaranteed ticket.

Main stand season ticket holder Ken Ballinger paid £1,034 for three tickets and was planning to travel with his two children.

He said: “I went with Everton because I wanted to do everything properly and ensure I got a ticket – even though their deal was very pricey. I could have got it cheaper going with someone else.

“When my confirmation details came through I was delighted. Then I got the phone call saying the flight was cancelled and I was devastated.

“Everton have messed up repeatedly when it comes to tickets for European games. It’s a disgrace.

“I’ve been a season ticket holder since 1981 and I’m sick of it now.”

Royal Liverpool hospital theatre technician Terry Clarke, 50, from Tuebrook, took a high-interest loan from a credit union to book his deal.

He said: “I’m staggered. It’s not the first time Everton have let us down. My friend booked for all three of us with the club. It cost us £340 each for return flights and a ticket. We were due to fly home straight after the game.”

One rumour circulating was that although 600 tickets were expected to be made available to Everton’s travel agent Leisure Path, only 400 were actually received.

However club spokesman Ian Ross denied this, although refusing to confirm the number of tickets available, and said no money will have been taken from fans’ accounts.

Mr Ross said: “They were put on a waiting list, and although their credit card details were taken, they were told there was no guarantee of a ticket.

“But if they met the criteria, and if tickets were still available, then the money would be debited from their cards on Friday.

“But we sold our entire allocation by Wednesday and unfortunately demand outweighed supply and the truth is we could have sold our allocation six times over.”

Travel Path would not comment and referred inquiries to Everton.

Lets just hope common sense wins out, and we have a good number of fans there to give the lads some backing. I'm sick of everyone bleating about the shi*e having the best fans in europe, lets show europe the passion of the our fans. And if we start well, i can see a good result. If we start well...

So first we dont take our Full Allocation (I was informed that we were offered 6.9% of the stadia and have instead opted to only take up 2,900). The Nuremberg Home End Tickets that have been Cancelled, Nuremberg showed intellegence and were selling tickets in the blocks next to the everton fans in the away end so all the blues would be together rather than spilt all over the stadium where they might be vunerable.

As for the Offical Tours the club should only offer a set ammount, (say 1500) And then say "Our Official Tours are Sold out, Please make your own travel arrangements,"

Waiting lists are a joke, as many fans could travel to Nuremberg cheaper if they plan thier own route, if I was going (but finances of being a student do not allow me to) I would have bought a package from the club because i too thought it guarenteed a ticket.

It's official.
Nurnberg FC have announced that, as UEFA have now classified this game as "high-risk", all tickets with UK addresses, purchased via their online or telephone service have been cancelled. They are also contacting people by phone where possible. Payments will be refunded - pity about the £200 non-refundable travel costs.
