REST IN PEACE AJ

Posted by Greg O'Keeffe on November 29, 2007 9:32 AM |

I CAN’T believe I’m writing about the untimely death of yet another bluenose in the paper today.

Anthony ‘AJ’ Clarke was the truest of blues who loved his club and loathed missing a game home or away.

Our picture of him having a laugh in Kharkiv, revelling in away-days banter and excitement, sums it up.
I know he was very well-liked by everyone from the match, in his local the Elmhouse and he was a passionate Keioc member.
Only weeks ago AJ was buzzing about seeing his photo in the Larissa programme and showing it to everyone he could.
He was also a top family-man by all accounts, a proud and youthful grandfather, and it’s impossible to imagine what his loved ones are going through.
Everyone here extends our deepest sympathies to them after they had to let doctors switch off his life-support yesterday.
While there is so much to be positive and happy about in the Everton family at the moment, we have suffered some massive losses over the last two years.
It seems like every few weeks I’m writing about the loss of another Blue, be it on the battlefields of Iraq or in a pool of blood in town.
Legends like Bally and Labby left us while Corinthian bluenoses like marine Ben Nowak, Alan Jones, Adam Smith little Rhys Jones and now AJ have gone way before their time. Not to foget Maddie McCann who still haunts us in her little Everton top.
It hits us all hard and we grieve for them all.

RIP AJ.
