LET’S hope we give Dick Advocaat pause for thought tonight before making future assessments on English football.
The Dutchman‘s claim that we are Route One merchants should only serve as inspiration for a sparkling performance.

The injury situation could be worse. Steffan Wessels doesn’t inspire the same fear factor as previous understudies (step forward Dicky Wright...and mind your ankle...) while Phil Jagielka looks best at centre half.
We’re approaching a glut of important games which could really crank up the positivity factor.
A win tonight followed by business-end progress in the Carling Cup will give us all the perfect cause of optimism during the busy Christmas fixtures.
Winning tonight will also leave yours truly going to Alkmaar without a ticket for a game which might as well be a friendly.
At least we’re staying in Amsterdam.........
Meanwhile, West Derby’s answer to Columbo is still no closer to cracking the case of Andy Johnson's wanky ‘A’ celebration. Cameron Jerome did it too after scoring for Birmingham.
Who cares, I hear you say?
Pointless trivia nerds like me. We love it.

Am told it refers to 'A list' meaning the player responsible is top class. Am Newcastle fan - if we ever score again it will be interesting to see the players creating a letter z using only their fingers.
