JUDGING by the unbelievable response to the last blog about the fast-approaching Kirkby decision it’s not just me pondering the practical consequences if it doesn’t happen.
Everton are claiming this summer’s transfer kitty is intrinsically linked to whether Kirkby gets the go-ahead.
So, the unpalatable conclusion is that if Kirkby is either delayed or halted by Government call-in, David Moyes won’t be going to Tesco for his summer recruits, he’ll be going to Netto.

By my reckoning the Ginger General (not really working as a nickname that is it..) will have about £10-12m to spend - a mixture of money from league placing, Sky and the Jimmy Mac transfer.

What irks me is that this shouldn’t be the case.
The stadium should have nothing to do with Moyes’ budget. To say it does smacks of the infamous 'No Plan B'.
It’s not like Kirkby was ever going to come down to anything other than a yes or no. So why should our immediate team building suffer as a consequence?
Won’t it just be another case of utterly failing to capitalise on a season of improvement?
For us to progress Moyes needs to be able to spend about £8m alone on a holding player, that’s before he gets in his new No 2, a stand-in keeper and potentially a winger.
Oh and that’s all after he has put pen to paper on a new contract.
I’m not ranting from a position of ignorance regarding the ultra-harsh trading conditions out there at the moment.
I know we still have a sizeable albatross of debt and borrowing to buy the five players we need will be tough.
Equally I know the likes of Bill Kenwright and Keith Wyness will have been trying to scrape together a budget to appease their ambitious manager.
But I resent any implication that this budget should tie-in with the ground move. Moyes was always going to want to spend this summer.
Across the park Benitez is still getting the funds for Dossena and Barry despite the credit crunch and wrangling over the new Anfield.
We can’t afford not to keep up. But it’s looking worryingly like, in the real world, we simply can’t afford to keep up either.

I agree completely, regardless of feelings about the Kirkby proposal, it should have no bearing on our present teams progress. To do so not only puts a heavy and potentially disastrous burden on our present set-up it also reeks of a carefully constructed move to force the fans into accepting the kikby project.
Not only that but it also puts the future of our club with regards to what goes on on the pitch out of our hands. It is of grave concern if the desires of the backroom has left the football teetering on the edge oft her abyss.
