THE KID

Posted by Greg O'Keeffe on July 23, 2008 9:30 AM |

THERE'S only one name on the lips of every blue today after our win over Preston at Deepdale.
Jose Baxter formally announced himself to uninitiated fans with a live-wire display of invention and maturity.
The 17-year-old from Litherland has been the academy's worst kept secret for some time now and his potentIal is undoubtedly vast.

joggplaying.jpg Jose, or 'Jogger' to his mates, hit the cross bar with a peach of a free-kick from 25 yards in the first half and set up Jags for the solitary goal with his corner.
He never looked out of depth in the first team and showed why he has been consistently recognised at international level.
I've heard Jose could be a fringe first team squad player next season which is true testament to the esteem he is held in around Finch Farm.
Jose, who still has the occasional kickabout at the Pitz with his mates, is a red.
But let's not hold that against him, he's been with the blues since he was six and his family rightly appreciate that youth gets a chance under David Moyes unlike across the park where Academy starlets are flogged to mid-tier Prem clubs and replaced with Spaniards.
Let's hope Jose can live up to his potential, keep his feet firmly on the ground, and swerve the home-made T-shirts should he ever score in the F.A. Youth cup.
