BIG VIC

By Greg O Keeffe on Jan 13, 09 09:27 AM

HINDSIGHT is obviously not something David Moyes had the benefit of at 4pm on Saturday.

So, much to all our regret he chose to keep Marrouane Fellaini on the pitch and the lanky Belgian eventually got himself booked, missing both derbies.
What's done is done, and even if we're entitled to wince at the inevitability of it all - and to feel slightly aggrieved when half the ground predicted it, moaning will do no good.
Instead our thoughts turn to a frustratingly extended week, with derby tension having a full seven days to boil under and no release until Monday night.
I felt something approaching optimism at taking on Liverpool with our 4-6 style formation using Cahill and Fellaini as forwards, and I'm sure Liverpool weren't relishing it.
But circumstances leave us almost certainly having to go 4-5-1 with Victor Anichebe leading the line.
Sadly, I can't see Liverpool losing any sleep at the prospect of facing the increasingly underwhelming young striker.
Anichebe's star was sent soaring after his emphatic and timely goals in our romanticised Uefa cup run last season.
But it's fair to say that since then he has struggled to live up to his early promise and his limitations have become very apparent.VIC.JPG
While his physique and use of it will always pose questions to defenders, his technique and attitude does not seem to be Premier League class.
He seems to spend far too much time on his backside complaining to referees or scuffing half-hit shots off target than he does being effective.
I recall Anichebe talking about waching tapes of Didier Drogba last season, but it seems like he has learned all the Chelsea forward's negative traits and none of his positives.
Even given his tender age, for many Evertonians Anichebe doesn't look like making the exacting grade at Goodison Park, and must work twice as hard if he is to have a career withn us.
Perhaps unfairly, many blues can only compare him to the absent James Vaughan and the disparity between the pair is glaring.
Anichebe is of similar age to Villa's Agbonlahor so he can't claim youth as his cloak of protection.
Nobody can dispute, however, that he has had his moments, and derbies are ripe for players to grasp opportunities.
I hope Anichebe wants to grasp his opportunity, and ensures his fitness and attitude are at their optimum for the dramatic double ahead.
