JIM HANCOCK HINTS AT GO-AHEAD FOR EVERTON F.C. STADIUM IN KIRKBY
MY COLLEAGUE David Bartlett has just posted this intriguing blog on Kirkby.
Have a look and let me know what you think. As far as I know Jim Hancock has good contacts and a lot of experience.

What do you think Greg?
My hunch is that it Kirkby will get the go-ahead.
I hope you're wrong! It'll be a crying shame. I partly blame your employers helping to obtain a 'Yes' vote. Personally I would have liked the Echo to question how fans are supposed to get there.
Greg, in the same blog Hancock hinted the Labour government would also use the Tories recent pledge to abandon the Merseytram as a stick to beat them with, do you think that the stadium going ahead announcement will be accompanied with an announcement the Merseytram to Kirkby is going ahead too? It already has permission until 2010 and I believe they already have the steel stored somewhere.
As to the blog overall, you can bet the small but vociferous internet anti-Kenwright brigade will go mental if this is true. Personally i'm quite relaxed about Kirkby myself even more so if we can get the Tramline direct to the city centre sorted as part of the package.
If it goes ahead and is capped at 40,000 because of transport links, Reebok Stadium was originally planned for 40,000 but reduced to 28,000 for same reason.
How will it be financially viable ?
Good question. As the capacity has dwindled from an initial proposal of 55,000 down to a possible 40,000 you do wonder whether the original financial argument stacks up.
