JO SET FOR ANOTHER SEASON AT EVERTON F.C. BUT WHAT ABOUT DEFOUR?

By Greg O Keeffe on Jul 7, 09 09:24 AM

LOOKS like Jo's back.
The young Brazilian who looked boss when slotting two past Bolton at home and then, at times, like an £18m fraud who couldn't finish his tea, was having fitness tests at Finch Farm yesterday.

His age would suggest there's room for improvement under good coaching, and 5 goals in 11 wasn't bad to be fair.

I'd be unhappy if we were spending any money on him because I'm not sure he's worth £8m, let alone £18m, but another season-long loan is not bad business.

It seems like a sensible bolstering of the striking ranks after Michael Owen opted to annoy his beloved Liverpool fans LESS by choosing United. Yeah, good thinking Mick.

With Yakubu approaching full fitness, having; The Yak, James Vaughan, Jo, Louis Saha, Kieran Agard and Victor Anichebe on the books is a healthy enough set-up.

However, I can still see Anichebe departing during the summer and won't be bothered as long as we get a fair price - around the £4m mark.

It remains quiet in terms of any substantial signings. The type that whet your appetite for the new season.

David Moyes won't need reminding that we have to bolster our midfield and full back berths with at least one exciting buy and then other shrewd recruits.

I hope the delay is simply Moyes taking his time to get the right deals, which nobody minds, instead of the funds being unavailable like last summer.

If we were able to offer Michael Owen £50k a week, albeit without a transfer fee, as has been reported it suggests Moyes knows his budget this time.

What would you think of us going in for Stephen Defour? He looked ace for Standard last year but would cost around the £15m we paid for his lanky ex team-mate.

Generally I'm impressed with Robert Elstone and he's already blogged on the official suite about not repeating last summer's mistakes.

Looks like patience is going to be needed and general ignoring of the hysterical 'Pull yer finger out Moyes' types who frequent ale houses and message boards across the city.
