JOLEON LESCOTT REPORTEDLY ASKS FOR MOVE TO MAN CITY AS SWISS F.A. SAY SENDEROS SIGNS FOR TOFFEES.

By Greg O Keeffe on Aug 4, 09 09:11 AM

JUST call me Mystic Greg, or Nostradamus, or Yuri Geller (doesn't he just bend spoons?).

In fact don't call me any of those things really, because my powers of future prediction are apparently less accurate than Tony Hibbert's passing.

To summarise, soft lad here yesterday says he finds the Senderos link doubtful and it looked like Lescott was going to stay.

Fast forward less than 24 hours, and it really does look like Senderos is joining and Lescott couldn't be more desperate to leave after making a formal transfer request.

He's even sent a begging letter to Bill Kenwright. Better than phoning him up in tears though eh Wayne?

So on that bombshell. Where do we begin?

Well, the fee for a start. That's all important now if you accept the Birmingham born centre back is going. I believed Moyes is entitled and to an extent obliged to hold out for as near to £30m as possible.

I won't bore you with a list of Joleon's attributes but suffice to say we all know that in this hyper inflated market he's worth more than £20m. Think about it, Adebayor scored about 12 for Arsenal last year and switched for £25m this summer.

The season before last Lescott scored 11 for us, largely playing at left back.

So yeah, we want a big, big fee - don't forget that £5m of it has to go to Wolves. Then we want to be able to spend every last penny of it Bill.

If you believe that Senderos is coming from Arsenal for around £5m, that leaves us with about £18m, depending on Lescott's final value (between £28m and £30m).

What does Moyes do then? It's very late in the day to have that amount of money swelling previously near-empty coffers.

Frustratingly one of his main targets, Naughton, has already gone to Spurs who gazumped us with a slightly better offer. Then Fabian Delph is on the brink of an £8m move to Villa, with Leeds behaving the opposite to Sheffield United by applauding Villa's discretion and refusing to entertain further bids.

For the sake of Everton morale, both of the remaining players and the fans, we need to sign a couple of big names. Is it worth going back to Sporting Lisbon with an offer for Moutinho? Or rocking Standard Liege with an £18m bid for Defours?

Then we could still do with strengthening right back and right midfield (wrap up that deal for Elm doube quick?)..

It's a headache because you suspect things just won't be as easy as that. Every other club will know how much we've got to spend because of the way Manchester City have done public business through the media.

It's a rotten situation. James Ducker at The Times clearly thinks we're an evil lot when it comes to turning on want-away players, but Lescott is unlikely to get the same treatment as Rooney.

There are key differences. Many would argue they could not blame the 26-year-old England star for taking a once-in-a-lifetime treble your wages opportunity. He has no extra expectation of loyalty which rightly or wrongly was expected of Rooney.

It's just a bit depressing and sums up the state of Premier League football 2009. We'll miss Lescott's goals as much as his defensive prowess. Though on reflection he isn't perfect (Drogba in the F.A. cup final, Own goal in the Carling Cup semi the season before).

It'd be great if Moyes refused to let him go, and Lescott accepted it without sulking but let's be real. That's unlikely.

Now all we can wish for is a quick resolution, and to hope parents out there held firm and refused to let their kids get Lescott's name printed on the back of their brand new replica kits.

Quick resolution is key. From the moment City came back with a second bid, it was inevitable Lescott would (at some point) ask to talk to them. I don't believe for a moment that he won't have been told at England gatherings about the sort of money on offer. When we can't counteract the money, or at the moment demonstrate we're in a position to strengthen the squad and step up, Lescott is bound to see a better long-term future financially with City.

Moyes is caught now between allowing the situation to fester and get nasty, drag on for weeks and still see Lescott leave, or move quick, take 22m and have a couple of weeks to find a replacement.

Senderos stinks the place out and it's good to see people saying as much on the official site. If we pay 5m quid for that, we're dafter than I imagined.

Sad, footie these days isnt it?

Everton raised Lescott's stock considerably after being a nobody at Wolves.

He give you 2 seasons and then decided to bugger off.

I could understand a touch more if it was Chelsea or United who had turned his head, but joining the moneybags Citeh bandwagon?

Barry, Lescott, Toure no class.

Tevez I have more sympathy with as he wasnt getting a game at United and he can stay local.

We might as well admit...they're just in in for as muh dough as poss, and loyalty means nowt.

That's why I love Carragher. ;-)

He has earned his right to the move. Long term financial security is already there wherever he plays it's about his belief in us being able to win trophies and he clerly doesn't think we can, let him go

Davie do you really believe it's about his belief in us being able to win trophies? Yes he may think City will be able to play in the Champions League sooner but let's have it right - his primary motivation will be money. Like Gareth Garry, Tevez etc..
