But oddly for criminals who had enough gumption to evade the England player's expensive security system, they must be pretty thick as well as callow to think he wouldn't be in.

Thank God it appears the centre-back's wife and kids weren't in at the time, although I know via an unfortunate mate that being robbed at knifepoint is a psychologically scarring experience.

At least we know Jags has the strength of character and bravery to get over what must have been a very unpleasant episode.

Footballers must feel they need to live in fortresses these days. We envy their wealth and lifestyle but I don't envy the insecurity and even vulnerability that these burglaries must engender in dressing rooms.
