MY NEW ROLE AS ECHO'S EVERTON F.C. CORRESPONDENT

By Greg O Keeffe on Nov 13, 09 12:22 PM

YOU might know that the ECHO has temporarily been without an Everton F.C. correspondent since Dominic King took over his new role covering Liverpool.

The good news, for me, is that I'm going to become the new Everton man from Monday.

Obviously it's a dream job and I can't wait to get cracking on it, starting with our away game against Manchester United next Saturday.

It might mean I have to scale down (N.B. not abandon entirely) the Taxi Club and County Road antics after games and I'm probably going to have to consider toning down the language at the match too.

I'm not yet sure what this means for the future of Gwlad Tidings, but I've enjoyed writing it for the last three seasons and I'm massively grateful for all your support, comments, abuse, piss-taking and general banter.

It'll be a privilege covering Everton for the ECHO and a priority will be reporting honestly for the benefit of ordinary Evertonians who love our club.

The supporters who were around long before our current idols in blue and will be around long after they've moved onto pastures new and declared "it's not about the money".

If I have to suffer the hardship of going home and away for nothing, getting paid to write about the club I love, and getting free butties in the press box for you all then, frankly, I'm prepared to do it.

I know, I know. What a guy.

Congratulations Greg. You need to keep Gwlad Tidings going, if only for the potential desktop wallpapers you post.

Let's hope your first report as correspondent is the death of Destination Kirkby.

Congrats Gregg!and good luck. Your first match report from GP will be of a great Derby win - check out the Spanish for " do you really think Everton's three goals were off side Mr. Benitez?"

As usual some thick person starts kenright bashing, maybe he would rather have a skint yank pulling the strings!

Just to Echo (wahey) the replies above, hopefully you'll have the pleasure of telling us all about how we're not moving to "DK". Up the Blues!

Congratulations on the job Greg.

Good luck with all those free butties!

Good luck Greg.

Looking forward to your match reports with, hopefully, passing nerd-stats a-plenty!

But it will be next summer's (non)transfer-window where you'll really have your work cut-out ("Luchoooooo"). You may as well go on holiday for three months!

Anyway, before that, I'll give it until Christmas before the first mutterings of:

"That Greg O'Keefe, he's a red y'know? Yeah, yeah, I know he's always said he was Blue but that's just a smokescreen. It's how they do things. I know he's red. Fella in me missus' work fitted a fire for his nextdoor neighbour and he was tellin him. Red as!"
